How the transfer portal has changed College Football

College Football is truly amazing. Tailgating, jam packed stadiums (let’s obviously forget about last year), bands, nothing beats it. I don’t know about you, but during Football season, Saturday is my favourite day of the week. A certain pit stop, has really changed College Football in it’s entirety. That pit stop, is the transfer portal. Like any other sport, College Football is unpredictable, and the transfer portal supports that statement. The transfer portal, has been a hot commodity, over the last 5 or so years. Players have left their Schools, and have found greener pastures elsewhere. When there’s a trend, others follow. Just like players opting out last season. Caleb Farley was the first to do so, and it started a trend. They saw him do it, so others followed.

3 out of the last 4 No. 1 overall picks have been transfers. I bet you didn’t know that. Those 3 are; Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, and Joe Burrow. They also all won the Heisman Trophy as well. Goes to show you, how sacred the transfer portal is.  Jake Fromm made 2 five star Quarterbacks transfer. Jacob Eason, and Justin Fields. Without him, the College Football Playoff, would have looked differently the last couple of years. It seems like every other day, somebody is entering the transfer portal.  If I had to list every player who has transferred, I would be here forever. That’s how busy the portal has been.

We’ve also seen players, decommit from a School, then sign with another. It’s not considered transferring, but it’s still the idea, of a player leaving a School for another. Mac Jones, and Sam Howell, are 2 prime examples. Jones, signed with Kentucky, then changed his mind, and as we know, signed with Alabama. I bet you didn’t know that. If Jones stayed at Kentucky, I’m sure he wouldn’t have won a National Championship, nor been a first round pick. Howell originally committed to play at Florida State, then decommitted, and signed to play at North Carolina. One decision, can make a huge diference in your career. Players aren’t scared, to test the waters elsewhere.
