Is this the year Alabama takes a step back?

The past decade or so, no College Football team, has been more dominant than Alabama. When you think of the top College team, Alabama surely comes to find first. Nick Saban, to go along with the School’s notoriety, is what drives top recruits, to play their. Alabama’s 2021 recruiting class, is the top recruiting class of all-time. No surprise eh? Their class includes seven 5 stars, and sixteen 4 stars. This class has a chance to be legendary.

The College Football Playoff has been around for 7 years, and Alabama has made the playoff 6 times. They’ve won 3 National Championships, and have lost in 2, in that span. The only year they didn’t make it, was in 2019 when Tua Tagovailoa went down. If he doesn’t go down, who knows, maybe they advance to the Playoff, and win it all. It’s truly remarkable to think, how dominant the Crimson Tide have been.

Let’s circle back to 2013. Alabama throttled Notre Dame in the National Championship, to win back-to-back titles. However, the next year they took a step back. On the last play of the game against Auburn, the Tigers returned a missed field goal, all the way back, and defeated Alabama. The game is known as “The Kick 6”, and it’s one of the most memorable plays, in College Football history. All because of that loss, Alabama didn’t advance to the BCS National Championship. If you didn’t know, the Playoff didn’t exist yet, and that was the last year for the BCS. Same goes for Clemson. They won the National Championship in 2017, taking down Alabama. The following year, they took a step back, with Deshaun Watson, and Mike Williams leaving for the NFL. They advanced to the Playoff, but lost to Alabama in the semi-finals. It’s near impossible, to be dominant every single season. Players leave, and it takes time to reload.

This could be the case for Alabama this year. Their Offense took a huge hit, with 8 starters leaving for the NFL. The only starters that are returning are; John Metchie III, Evan Neal, and Emil Ekiyor. It’s Bryce Young’s time now, with Mac Jones off to the NFL. Young has some big shoes to fill, but should be more than up to the challenge, with him being the top ranked Quarterback in the 2020 recruiting class. The Defense only lost 3 starters; Patrick Surtain II, Dylan Moses, and Christian Barmore. I expect this Defense, to be one of the best in the Country, if not the best. Don’t be surprised if Bama, isn’t in the National Championship Game next January.
